Kamalaspa. I had a difficult time trying to describe it because it's more than a spa; it's more like an oasis. Dreamed up by Amber Marie and Christopher Bently and developed on the 7th floor of a building on Union Square, it's become Nirvana for locals.
Tuesday night, the first floor of the building (soon to be taken over by the neighboring Gucci store), buzzed with an aura of enlightenment and excitement as DJ David Carvalho's mix of techno and house filled the room. The party, hosted by Nick Verreos (see interview), fashion designer and frequent customer the spa, brought together an eclectic mix of styles, making it all the more enjoyable.
With clothing provided by Torso Vintages and jewelry by Amber Marie Bently herself, Kamalaspa showcased beautiful hair and make-up. Amber Marie took my breath away she was so phenomenally gorgeous in her gown (anyone should be so lucky to be dressed by Torso Vintages), with stunning hair, immaculate make-up and, of course, beautiful jewelry. Fiji water, San Francisco magazine and Cellar 360 also sponsored the event.
Kamalaspa, based on Eastern culture and largely influenced by Ayurveda, an ancient method of healing, takes a holistic approach to their treatments. As someone who has been to a few practitioners who utillize Ayurvedic principles, I believe in it. Top that off with phenomenal stylists, and you have a winning combination. As one of my friends wrote, "I wish I lived at Kamalaspa."
The Bentlys have generously donated the Bently Reserve (formerly the Federal Reserve Building) for the Gorgeous & Green event benefiting Global Green on December 18. Look to them as prime examples of people who walk their eco talk. As to Torso Vintages, we're waiting with bated breath for their online store to open and we look forward to Nick Verreos's designs hopefully to be available soon in the Bay Area.
