I've always had a problem wearing red - I suppose some of it is from a fear of its boldness along with the redhead clash effect. After studying fashion over time, I've learned that I can actually wear red, but it has to be the right red. I still have yet to own a really red dress. Merlot, yes. Scarlet, no. That said, even I would put on a bright red dress to support The Heart Truth, a program created in 2002 that made the red dress a national symbol for heart disease in women. It's just too important an issue to ignore.
Many people still don't know that Heart Disease is the number one killer of women, so they made February 1st their "wear red day" and this year at Fashion Week, they produced a fabulous showcase for Fall 2008 to further emphasize the importance of this project. Sponsored by Diet Coke, the Red Dress Collection includes some exquisite dresses like the one top left, by Marc Jacobs and worn by Heidi Klum in the show. (Dresses were on display in a booth inside the Bryant Park tents.) To the right is the strapless dress by Swarovski worn by Molly Sims.
So surprise your valentine, ladies. Wear a red dress. Have a glass of Merlot and support an important cause.
