A few weeks ago, my husband had a day to himself in San Francisco and he ended up, as we often do, at H&M shopping for our daughter. It's my fault - I sent him there in search of an inexpensive sparkly headband for her, since she had fallen in love with one her friend had. In addition to the headband, he came home with two darling dresses - one of which was organic cotton.
It turns out that not only does H&M now have an organic cotton children's line, but they have expanded their organic cotton spring line to using 1500 tons of organic cotton - more than the total amount of organic cotton they used during all of last year.
H&M’s Head of Design, Margareta van den Bosch says H&M's "customers are becoming increasingly aware of both fashion and the environment. We are proud to offer clothes made from organic cotton in nearly every H&M department.” Largely inspired by the 70s, this spring's collection includes skirts of all lengths, feminine blouses, a wide range of basics, and fun, flowing dresses.
Items in the organic line range in price from $6 to $25, staying with H&M's affordable design philosophy. All I know is of both dresses that we now have from H&M's spring collection, the organic cotton dress is softer, and they're both adorable. (Side note for eco purists: there was no mention in the press release of using organic materials in the dyes; just the cotton.)
In the Bay Area, we have 4 H&M stores in San Francisco (downtown, Union Square, and Westfield all within walking distance of each other, and Stonestown). There are also stores in Emeryville (Bay Street), Walnut Creek, San Jose (Santana Row), Milpitas (Great Mall), and Concord. Not all stores have children's departments, and not all stores carry the organic cotton line, so it's best to use the online store finder at hm.com and to call the store in question to find out if they have what you seek.
Now I want to go to SF- I love that they are making organic clothes affordable to all!

Yep. And I scored at their Post Street store last week while looking for trendy spring tops and sweaters. I didn't find any from their organic line there, however.

I love H&M's organic cotton line! The looks are simple and clean, and the best part is that they are super comfortable.
