Everyone seems to say that shopping for boys isn't nearly as fun as shopping for girls. That may be true, but perhaps that makes finding a nice outfit even more exciting. This week I'm shopping ahead for recitals, weddings, and other special occasions coming up throughout the new year - and hoping to get some good deals while avoiding those stressful, last-minute searches down the road.
Neige - I was so excited to come across Neige, with their soft, beautiful fabrics transformed into elegant children's styles. The vibe for boys is English country - playful and classic, but neither stiff nor stuffy. The girls' collection is both sophisticated and age-appropriate - and surprising devoid of pink (which can be good or bad). The Neige fall and winter line is on sale through their website. I look forward to seeing what they'll be offering for spring.
Brooks Brothers - Perhaps no other store is as synonymous with tradition as Brooks Brothers, which was founded in 1818 and today outfits boys as young as age 3 or 4. Online I found a vast selection of timeless items from all degrees of dressiness - from sweaters and sport coats to pint-sized suits and tuxes. And if your handsome little bugger will be needing a necktie, look no further for what must the best selection anywhere.
Rugged Bear - For good quality, bargain-priced, classic boys' wear, check out the website for East Coast retailer Rugged Bear. A fully lined, all-wool, navy blazer can now be had for under $50, and cotton pinpoint oxford shirts that are on sale in the $10-15 range. (This looks like a good place to shop for school uniform basics, too.)
As for stocking up on the boy basics, turtlenecks and undies from Hanna Andersson are great for sensitive skin and stand up well to frequent washing. My son also loves soft-washed khakis from Crewcuts and jeans from the Gap (which offers slim and husky sizes).
i am completely agree with your post.

Does the Brooks Brothers here have kids clothes?

They do have some boys' clothes, but I remember them being out of sizes when I was looking. Worth checking or phoning. BTW, I think their boys' navy blazer is made with Loro Piana wool, which is super-nice and definitely grown-up quality fabric.
